Clive Katz MergedThe filter display should show the more important attributes first - Example: Search Hole Punch - you would assume the user would want to filter on Category (Desktop, Heavy Duty, electric etc); # of head/holes; Sheet Capacity; Price - what we show is BRAND - how many users would shop a 3 hole punch by brand? I agree brand works for some items.
A dealer can control the item categories and sub categories, therefore having category first allows some flexibility for us to control what the user is looking for.
Brand seems to be first on most sites, but CATEGORIES and FEATURES should also be displayed on the first page.

Clive Katzcheck out Staples.com - example - type boards in the search bar and you will notice category and brands are the 2 filters that appear on the page. Their new display on how they show attributes is very cool

Boris GersicThis would be very beneficial, especially with managed attributes. If we could re-organise them and also hide ones that we don't want to show in the filtering system, that would be brilliant!
