One Master Sku will add Multiple Items to Cart (ex Desk Configurations)

We have on our website several different desk configurations that use skus of individual pieces of a desk. It would be great if a customer added the configuration sku to their cart, if it actually added all the individual pieces to the cart instead. We have all the individual pieces on hand in DDMS, but we don't keep the full configuration on hand, so we have to adjust inventory levels manually when these are ordered.
Ex. Someone orders an L desk with 2 hanging pedestals. What is needed for that is actually a desk, a desk return, and 2 hanging pedestals. If someone added the master to their cart - can linked items behind the scene that make up that item be added instead?
